I read a children’s book, and one passage stood out. It made me question how much of ourselves we forget as we grow older.
It’s The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Although it’s a children’s classic, I found myself connecting with it deeply as an adult.
And then Colin says: “Magic is in me! Magic is making me well!”
What really moved me about these words is the idea that perhaps there’s a kind of magic within us that we’ve forgotten how to recognise. But Colin doesn’t know how he’s going to become strong. He calls it an experiment. He begins by allowing himself to believe that change is possible and his transformation doesn’t happen in isolation. Mary encourages him, Dickon connects him with nature, and the garden becomes a place where he experiences renewal.
We spend so much of our lives aspiring to become something more, but in the process we tend to lose touch with what makes us feel alive: our passions, our curiosity, our capacity for wonder, and our willingness to begin again.
I believe in Magic! And I’d love to know: when was the last time you believed something was possible for you before you knew how to make it happen?
