“Yeh life logic ka khel nahin hai. Yeh life magic ka khel hai.” Magic – it’s a semblance of empirical uncanny experiences that defy logic especially in situations which are not in cognizant and fail to exercise restraint where the object in question is able to achieve the impassable.
Do you believe in Magic? Would you concur if I shared that our lives are projections, reflections of our thoughts, words, beliefs, and actions? Our existence is a part of this dynamic diaspora, an amalgamation, a phantasmagoria of vibrant colours, images, and experiences that illuminate vividly, transcending the commonplace palette of black, white, or the familiar shades of grey that we’re accustomed to. As implausible and preposterous this may sound, it’s true. Each one of us possesses a spark, an innate ability to conjure, manifest our desires, dreams, and goals. There’s a potential that’s lurking, lying dormant within us, yearning for our highest good and the betterment of society. The question – do we possess a means to gauge its equilibrium and its ramifications?
We’re made of energy and energy’s fundamental principle or purpose is to move; it cannot remain static. If this ceaselessly flowing energy isn’t harnessed to its potential, it begins to stagnate, growing dense and inert—what we term negativity, often leading to depression. Our lives are inherently designed to traverse peaks and valleys, irrespective of our personal preferences. We are tethered to a spectrum of experiences – the good, the bad, and the ugly – and are compelled to navigate these phases as integral lessons for our learning and growth.
“Yeh life logic ka khel nahin hai. Yeh life magic ka khel hai.” I love this line from the movie Ghoomer as it forms the crux of the narrative. It epitomizes and speaks volumes about evoking and finding ‘magic’ in the protagonist ‘Anina’ in a distinctive manner – by playing a pivotal role in reviving and transitioning her already flailing career, reigniting her hope for survival.
R. Balki has once again brought forth an inspiring and poignant tale of transmutation, strengthening the core values of hope, faith, and self-belief. An unwarranted accident renders Anina without an arm (amputation) – a role flawlessly portrayed by Saiyami Kher. Anina, once selected to play for the Indian cricket team as a right-handed batsman, witnesses her dreams and will to live shatter due to a tragic accident. However, like a snake shedding its skin, Anina navigates through trials and errors, enduring a torrent of challenges under the tutelage of an alcoholic eccentric coach, Paddy – a character phenomenally and brilliantly brought to life by Abhishek Bachchan. His portrayal provides the leverage needed to instill the confidence and the will to live in her. Like a phoenix, Anina rises from the ashes, transforming into a spinner and proving her mettle once again.
This movie is an ode to life, an unwavering belief in a spirit that confronts life’s obstacles unflinchingly, driven by an indomitable life-force that governs us without resentment. The meticulously crafted and well-written script stands out as the hero of the film, winning on all fronts. Abhishek’s portrayal of Paddy is fantastic; his role exudes the essence of an eccentric coach determined to reclaim his faltering ego and cricket career. Abhishek’s flawless performance marks a triumphant return. The interactions between Abhishek and Saiyami were seamless and captivating, keeping the audience glued to their seats, yearning for more. With luminaries of acting and cinema like Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Mrs. Shabana Azmi on the screen, their excellence in the craft is awe-inspiring and enchanting.
Will Anina emerge victorious? Can she withstand the challenges life hurls at her? What about Paddy, the eccentric alcoholic coach? If these questions intrigue you and you cherish a captivating storytelling experience, a visit to the nearest theatre is a must. For I personally loved it and wholeheartedly recommend it to all.
