The chronicles of life’s experiences are privy in expressing our need for validation through the guise of various emotions, akin to a firmament shining bright, blinding reality. This need to justify and prove our actions gives birth to a kaleidoscope of unresolved emotions when triggered by stimuli. It acts as a catalyst for unwarranted situations, propelling us to create mayhem that impacts our environment and relationships around us.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga brings to celluloid a poignant story of an estranged father and son hovering on the brink of toxicity and obsession – daddy issues. The love a father and son experience for each other is rarely expressed and is seldom spoken of. This beautiful paternal bond if not cherished and nurtured, will wither away, harbouring discord and hatred. Relationships are like plants; for they need a conducive environment for healthy growth and sustenance. If ignored since childhood, these dormant feelings of approval and self-worth tend to take a more violent form of expression during adulthood, resulting in bad decision-making.
What delayed this review is the protagonist’s statement regarding poetry. Why drag poetry into this and malign it? I didn’t like it one bit. I had given up the thought of writing a review, but the movie was so good that I was compelled to.
I am writing an open letter to the entire cast and crew of this movie for their dedication and unflinching determination towards a shared vision, immaculately scripted and envisioned by the mastermind Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Your collective effort has gifted the Indian Film Industry with a cult movie, creating a furore at the box office. The movie #Animal undoubtedly etch its place in the annals of history, owing to its powerful narrative, scripting, screenplay, performances, action, music and more. The palpable effort and undeniable success allow the work itself to speak volumes.
Every frame of the movie captivated me, even throughout its extensive duration of 3 hours and 21 minutes. I found myself glued to my seat, swept away by an overwhelming rush of adrenaline, dopamine and raw power. Watching these characters come to life on screen was a delight, moving effortlessly like a breeze. What we witness is a labor of love, passion, audacity, madness, and an unshakable belief in one’s craft!
Having grown up surrounded by books, music, and weekend family gatherings, my fondness for rock music naturally drew me towards being a fervent fan of action movies. The movie’s background score and music are exceptional, providing a rustic and earthy ambience. I can’t help but wonder if it’s a manifestation of my imagination, as I detect shades of inspiration from Quentin Tarantino’s work. Casting Bobby Deol was the proverbial cherry on top. As a fervent admirer of John Travolta, I’ve always appreciated how his movements and presence illuminate a scene even without dialogue. In a similar vein, fellow Aquarian Bobby’s portrayal of Abrar Haque is a masterstroke. He has aced it impeccably, from expressions to body language – as smooth as butter. He renders the antagonist character so irresistibly powerful and alluring; that, to me, is sheer intelligence at work!
The scenes depicting the powerful dynamics between father and son demanded a precise degree of intensity and aggression. It wouldn’t have created the desired impact without the perfectly nuanced performance of Anil Kapoor. The depth of emotion conveyed through those eyes reflects a lifetime of experience.
Rashmika Mandanna your portrayal of the demure Geetanjali, who falls in love with the alpha male, was nothing short of brilliant. Especially memorable was the scene where you tamed the “animal” with your powerful performance. You have my heart!
‘Sher’ embodies the epitome of an alpha – ruling the roost and reigning supreme. With this movie, Ranbir Kapoor has once again asserted his position as the undisputed king of Hindi cinema! Of course, acknowledging that there is only one Emperor who reigns over all kings 😊. Ranbir, you are gorgeousness in flesh and blood, spelling dominance each time you come on screen with your sheer brilliance and craft. Your performance carries an unspoken weight and is truly magical – alpha in every way! I wonder, what part of the brain do you access to unleash such pure power and persona on screen? Your portrayal of Abrar’s younger brother with those menacing, evil looks was so convincing, for a moment I couldn’t believe it was you. That’s the mark of a performer par excellence. I am eagerly awaiting to see you in a new avatar in Animal II.
Critics might not shower praise on this movie and are labelling it as misogynistic. However, it’s crucial to remember the targeted genre and acknowledge the sheer creativity at play. What else could we expect from an alpha male with mentally deranged, obsessive feelings for his father? If we view the movie purely for the craftsmanship it embodies, it emerges as a sure-shot winner.
I adored the movie for its precision in execution. Kudos to the entire cast and crew for crafting a masterpiece. I earnestly hope this letter reaches a wide audience, as I wish for them to experience it firsthand by watching it in cinemas.
Thank you for entertaining us. Much love 😊
