Shamshera | Movie Review

An open letter to Shamshera and his son Bali…

Shamshera, I must confess that I was never a big fan of Hindi Cinema until this opportune moment when I watched, experienced and lived every facet of your life in a span of 2 hours and 39 minutes; your moments of triumph, celebration, success, betrayal, tears of pain, sorrow and the sacrifices you endured for your community; the Khamerans.

Your poignant tale is so meticulously crafted with an impassioned fervor that it flows lucidly and seamlessly. The impeccable narrative is smooth and so picturesque that it immediately transports the viewer into your world that calls for an immersive experience. Shamshera, your unsullied character and the grandeur of your persona is both quintessential and exemplary. If there ever was a character that I would fall in love with, it would be YOU – Ranbir! You’re the epitome of leadership and have personified the phenomena – Shamshera on the big screen, the movies!!! What a stellar performance, I’m totally in awe and in love with your craft.

What hurt me most was to see you getting betrayed and humiliated by your own people, the ones you trusted. It was excruciatingly awful to see gorgeousness tied to a rope and then being pelted with stones by his own community…I was distraught, it was torturous…I had to hide my face behind a bucket of popcorn but nevertheless enjoyed it when karma got the better of Shuddh Singh.

Bali, your shenanigans sprinkled with a dash of naivety are so enchanting. How deftly you demonstrated the transition from playing a novice to a man who shoulders responsibility for his kilt & kin; loved every moment of it. There were so many chapters of your life that were captured effortlessly and rhythmically like a poem. I would like to take a moment here and appreciate the great work, the relentless effort of all people who partook and assisted you in this journey of your life, because without their determination, perseverance and unflinching faith; you wouldn’t have managed to get the well-deserved freedom and bring the cherished victory that Shamshera, your father longed and desired for his people.

I was stupefied to find that your life’s journey didn’t resonate with majority of the people, all I read and heard was a cacophony of mixed emotions however, I would want people to experience your heart-wrenching tale firsthand at the movies! An honest, unbiased review for the entire cast and crew of this beautiful film, Shamshera! Kudos!
