Dhurandhar | Movie Review

For me, this movie unfurls with the deliberate modulation of a finely wrought novel, one that chronicles political vendetta, inspired by real events, revealing a constellation of characters, each shaped by an inner void that compels their actions and governs their behaviours in accordance with the protocols imposed upon them.

What unfolds is a riveting study in human complexity: the layered and meticulously constructed architecture of characterization.

The narrative is executed with remarkable finesse, drawing its pulse from lived realities, and rendered with extraordinary depth through performances of rare emotional precision. The actors, stalwarts in their own right, inhabit their roles with such nuanced acuity and unfeigned authenticity that the screen expands into a sweeping panorama of brilliance. Their craft does not just portray; it penetrates, shaping each moment into a vivid, textured, and unforgettable artwork.

Right from the first frame, you’re hooked – pulled headlong into the sinister world of gangsters, a fictional narrative steeped in real events that unfolded in Pakistan. The world building is immersive, offering an unflinching glimpse into the raw heart of vengeance: a blood-soaked terrain where power-hungry elements battle relentlessly for dominance. The screenplay is taut, the pacing unyielding, and the characterization sculpted with striking precision. Every element, be it dialogue, cinematography, or costume design, and the directorial command is coherent with such seamless mastery that the sets and films seem less constructed and more inhabited.

Performances

Ranveer – I have been waiting to write a review of your work since Gully Boy, and at last, the moment feels right. Your performance as Hamza Ali Mazhari is nothing short of exceptional. With a rare restraint and an exquisite command of emotional nuance, you inhabit the role with such disarming naturalness that the entire performance unfolds with fluid grace. Watching you on screen was an absolute delight – an effortless immersion into craft shaped by precision and sincerity, for I saw not the actor Ranveer but the quiet sensitivity and layered depth of Hamza Ali emerging before me.

Sanjay Dutt – Rugged, commanding and unflinchingly potent, you inhabited the role of SP Chaudhary Aslam with a presence that felt almost instinctive and watching you embody a character of such formidable stature is invariably a pleasure; you carry these roles with a rare gravitas, authenticity, and sinewed intensity that renders them indelibly your own.

Arjun Rampal – How does one transform a man of striking elegance into a figure of chilling menace and corrosive spite, while still exuding the raw, unbridled force of wrath? You manage this with an unnerving ease. As Major Iqbal, you project a cold, chilling composure, crafting a performance that terrifies through the quiet, deliberate restraint rather than spectacle.

R Madhavan – I’ve long believed that even in complete silence, you command the screen with astonishing force, and this performance only reaffirms it. The sheer magnitude of your presence, coupled with the precision of your gaze and the weight of your delivery is a masterclass in control. You don’t merely appear on screen; you dominate it, hold the frame with an authority that requires no embellishment, to assert itself.

Akshaye Khanna (as Rehman Dakait) – Evil manifests in countless forms, sometimes vile, devious and extremely intoxicating all at once, yet you transcend every expected trope. Such an enigmatic force need not appear as a towering, imposing figure radiating brute charm. Instead, you embody a rarer, far more unsettling quality: a grace so alluring it becomes indomitable and effervescent, magnetic in its pull, and yet suffused with a purity of spite and malevolence that chills to the bone.

With that unflinching, unfiltered, arresting gaze and a body language that commands attention without ever asking for it, your on-screen presence becomes impossible to look past. You carry such effortless gravitas that it effortlessly eclipses almost anyone who stands beside you, reshaping the frame entirely around your force of persona. A bonafide masterclass in screen domination.

Barring a few segments, the meticulous execution and masterful storytelling of this movie has elevated it into the realm of exceptional – a cult classic in the making, a cinematic tour de force destined to be etched into the annals of film history.

Heartfelt congratulations to the producers and to the entire cast and crew for the tireless precision and sheer audacity with which you’ve brought this colossal movie to life. I was thoroughly engrossed from start to finish, though I’ll admit, I walked into the theatre with the singular intention of watching Akshaye Khanna – but I was completely taken by surprise by the performances across the board and by the sophistication of the storytelling. It’s brilliance personified. I would wholeheartedly urge anyone who hasn’t seen it yet to experience it for themselves on the big screen.
