“You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?” – Rumi

I find this quote extremely inspiring; hence, I decided to write a short poem and a brief reflection on what this quote means to me and how it motivates me to take it one day at a time. What motivates and inspires you the most?

Have you ever sat down in solitude and questioned your existence on Earth? Or, better yet, what is our purpose in life? As intriguing and esoteric these questions may sound, one cannot escape the profound truth that resonates throughout the vast expanse of the universe.

The reality is that the human spirit is born with infinite potential, a spark that lies dormant within us, obscured by the mundane challenges and constraints of our daily lives.

Rumi’s quote, “You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?” beautifully encapsulates the profundity of life. The wings depicted in this quote are metaphorical and symbolize the potential that implores us to set our sights on the impossible. Each one of us possesses an inherent desire to break free from the chains of our self-imposed cerebral limitations, a path to self-actualization, like a bird flying high in the sky, where boundless untapped opportunities await exploration and realization.

Man’s survival instinct and his proclivity for the stability and safety of his family create a mirage of stagnation and complacency, generating a sense of familiarity, a bane and hindrance to our growth. If left untouched and unexplored, our intangible wings will remain mere vestiges of what could have been.

Hence, one must consciously step forward to honor and tap into this infinite dormant potential. We must listen to the inner voice contained within us, waiting to courageously embrace the liberating flight. Like an inexperienced bird that must summon the nerve to leave the nest, we too must confront our so-called fears and spread our wings, taking the first courageous step towards self-discovery. This flight infuses our lives with purpose and a pursuit of fulfillment, transforming us from mere spectators into action-oriented individuals in this symphony of life.
