Bloody Daddy | Movie Review

“Daddy is coming…” This line from the movie gets the viewers’ adrenaline pumping, evoking a sense of nostalgia and a familiarity so powerful. We rely on and have a strong dependency on this precious bond based on trust and faith. This line got me hooked as it plays a significant part in establishing the estranged father-son relationship. It sets the tone and pace of a narrative that reeks of shattered, beguiled egos, imbued with vengeance, violence, and an insatiable appetite that craves blood, validation, and an unquenchable thirst for power.

“Dad” – this word epitomizes a persona who is a provider, sustainer, and nurturer. He is a symbol of virility, strength, and courage. A safe haven for his children who don many hats and play the role of a superhero in their lives. Sumair Azad, the main protagonist of this movie, is an undercover cop working to bust the narcotics gang. All hell breaks loose when his son is kidnapped by Sikandar Chowdhary, the drug lord, and that’s when Daddy Sumair goes at it hammer and tongs to rescue his son.

As the moon waxes and wanes, depicting its various phases, so does Sumair’s life. It takes a U-turn where his character is forced to go through insurmountable obstacles, combating a superfluity of scheming twists and turns that lay strewn on his path, all of it in one night. The story marches forward with a coherent and descriptive screenplay that’s interspersed with some splendid action sequences, the kitchen fight being my personal favorite, for its well-paced and aesthetically shot. What amazes and fascinates me is the well-orchestrated continuity of expressions, look, feel, and the entire setup – its spot on!

A brilliant script requires a person with astute vision, someone who has the propensity to cultivate and deliver raw experiences through immaculate performances and a smooth narrative that connects with the audience. And that’s exactly what Ali Abbas Zafar has accomplished with this one-night saga. Under his governance, we are presented with a well-designed action thriller that is sure to immerse you in the life of an undercover cop whose imperturbable and indomitable demeanor goes through a metamorphosis, vanquishing evil, a perennial battle between good and bad.

While all the actors in the movie have done an exceptional job portraying their characters to perfection, there are two strikingly phenomenal performances that I would like to highlight. Shahid Kapoor wondrously executes the role of Sumair Azad, who finds himself in a lethal, earth-shaking situation, unabashedly and unapologetically going on a killing rampage with a suave and impressionable performance. What an actor! I applaud the depth and finesse of his craft, I’m a fan! The subtlety of expressions, particularly when he hoards the dining table with a poise and a body language proclaiming his dominance on the screen.

The evil portrayed must be equally potent as the forces of good to achieve a balanced scale that can be measured accordingly. Ronit Roy as the undisputable, charming debonair sashays the role of the drug lord with panache. His portrayal exudes ease and eloquence in being a badass. He personifies wickedness and makes it appear so effortlessly cool.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching “Bloody Daddy,” and I express my gratitude to director Ali Zafar for his contribution in bringing this project to life. I wholeheartedly recommend everyone, especially fans of action movies, to watch this film.
