“Philip B. Crosby’s ‘Quality is Free’ has held a handsome place on my bookshelf since I first picked it up, or rather borrowed it from my dad, back when I was in school. Intrigued by the title, my curiosity about what the book contained got the better of me. I devoured every page for years on end, with guns blazing, trying to feed my naive, malleable mind and incorporate the essence of these three words into my daily activities through trial and error. Voila! It gave birth to ownership, accountability, and problem-solving, aiming to do things right the first time and the process continues till date, I believe!
My intent here is not to sound pompous or delve into corporate gyaan. Instead, I choose to believe that my readers personify these qualities. I’d want you to take a moment and look around; you’ll identify individuals you know who are slackers and tend to procrastinate.
Many issues can be mitigated and resolved with sincerity and due diligence. Cost-cutting, compromising on quality, and managing with inadequacies will eventually lead to downfall. One of the strongest reasons for calamities and disasters, resulting in loss of life, money or failed projects is man-made disasters caused by negligence and an incompetent workforce.
Kudos to YRF for creating and bringing to life a captivating drama about the Bhopal gas tragedy. It intricately weaves the untold saga of unsung heroes who fought bravely and zealously to save the lives of people who were unfortunately embroiled in the web of darkness on that fateful night, where lives were painfully snatched away by the merciless sinister beliefs of the ones who wield their mighty power over the weak for nothing. This series draws inspiration from the true events that plagued our nation in 1984.
I take a moment to applaud the writers for their thorough research and indisputable capability to translate well-curated thoughts and imagination on the screen with finesse. The narrative is smooth and gripping, transporting the audience back in time to experience the poignant tale laced with fear, agony and loss of lives through the eyes of four men who rose to the occasion with utmost clarity and compassion for humanity, eliminating the tragedy’s juxtaposition in their own lives.
The well-etched and deftly crafted screenplay, coupled with intelligent characterization, takes the audience on a challenging journey fraught with obstacles, ultimately culminating in the saving of thousands of lives. Our protagonists surpass the call of duty with an indefatigable passion to avert a disaster that could have resulted in a larger loss of lives. The casting is impeccable, and the performances are exceptional.
Kay Kay delivers an epic performance as a dutiful station master who pledges to save innocents caught unaware in the schism of a gas leak at the Bhopal railway station. Privy to the stalwarts around him, Babil delivers a splendid, nuanced performance as an inexperienced loco pilot, resonating instantly with the audience through his grace, subtlety, and maturity, and he shines throughout. Divyenndu Sharma flawlessly sashays the role of a train robber who experiences a change of character amidst the ghastly trail of that fateful night. Madhavan, with his versatility and enigmatic screen presence, delivers an impeccable performance as the GM of the West Central Railway zone, showcasing his craft with ease.
The director at the helm has done a fabulous job of exhibiting and bringing to the fore an ensemble of star cast coupled with a wondrous display of skills and performances by the supporting actors. Without their relentless and unflinching contribution, this series wouldn’t be the showstopper it is today! I thoroughly enjoyed the series and highly recommend it as a must-watch!
