Kill | Movie Review

Rudra and Vira rasas (Anger and Enthusiasm respectively) are pivotal in shaping our demeanour and future, as they are governed by our actions. Their immense potency lies in their creativity, and ability to harness raw, intense emotions when in duress. Once stimulated these rasas trigger the body’s ‘fight  or flight’ response, releasing adrenaline and providing the necessary surge of energy, sharpening our senses and empowering one to navigate the challenging situations effectively.

The course of action is dictated by the choices one makes, for Rudra and Vira are akin to two seeds of the same pod – cause and effect. The dichotomy between Anger and Enthusiasm weighs entirely on the individual harnessing these emotions. How do we justify actions provoked by anger? Is it possible to transcend the binary perspective of duality? Should vigilantism be extolled?

These were some questions that came to my mind while watching the movie “Kill.” Would one, caught in the web of uncanny and unfortunate events, inevitably be driven to take the law into their own hands for the sake of self-preservation and the protection of innocent lives? This fast-paced action movie just hits the right spot, keeping audience on the edge of their seats, much like a cliff hanger, asking for more. The narrative is seamless, devoid of frivolous shenanigans and unnecessary caricatures dancing and preening about, for it means business and starts on the right note maintaining a gripping narrative throughout.

The execution of the action sequences is impeccable; in fact I’m particularly intrigued by the precision and rawness of the screenplay. The rhythmic beauty of the fight sequences in a constrained environment -train- is highly commendable. It’s believable and slick. Call me sadistic, but I was thoroughly captivated when the protagonist, Amrit Rathod – an NSG Commando portrayed by Lakshya – becomes embroiled in a hostage situation on a train. His subsequent butchering rampage showing no remorse for the vile, vermin – scum of the earth hooligans, was deeply satisfying, for these scoundrels deserve to be trampled and squashed upon mercilessly, as they are devoid of compassion and wouldn’t think twice before wielding a knife for their selfish motives.

Fani (Raghav Jugal) along with his cadre of ruthless murderers, delivers a stellar performance. The deftly crafted characters stand out for their menacing traits, with each portrayal meticulously detailed. The subtlety and fluidity of Fani’s cockiness in savagely slaughtering the innocents is particularly nerve-wracking, evoking an instinctive response from the audience.  The urge to brand him with hot iron is a testament of Raghav’s impeccable portrayal of the antagonist. This brilliant execution of his acting prowess solidifies his character as an unforgettable villain.

Lakshya as Amrit, is spectacular on screen, exuding a powerful persona that epitomises confidence. He meticulously embodied the role of a commando with great finesse, seamlessly transforming into his character. His portrayal as a commando is so convincing that one sees only the character in him, a testament to his talent and dedication.

Tanya Maniktala, as Tulika Singh, skilfully portrays the role of Amrit’s love interest. She is like a breath of fresh air, and pulls of this character with great ease with her demure appearance and nuanced, restrained performance.

Well, we’ve witnessed a considerable amount of butchering in many of the action movies released last year, I anticipated even more gore – a bloodbath fuelled by vengeance, however, I have no complaints, as “Kill” is a meticulously crafted and executed action flick that deserves to be experienced in a theatre. One of my favourite scenes from this movie is the fight sequence between Ashish Vidhyarti and Lakshya. It’s nothing short of brilliant and took me by surprise.

What will be the fate of Amrit and Fani? Additionally, there is a romantic tryst between Amrit and Tulika Singh, his love interest who is also travelling on the same train with her family. What will become of their relationship? Will their love see the light of the day? If these questions intrigue you, then you must watch this movie for its stellar performances, gripping action sequences, smooth seamless narrative and expertly crafted screenplay. Helmed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, this movie promises a riveting experience that should not be missed.

I absolutely loved the carnage in this movie and would highly recommend it especially if you’re a fan of action and gore!
